Design
Architect
Design buildings and spaces, then get them built — drawings, site visits, bye-laws, clients. B.Arch is 5 years and CoA-regulated.
Typical exams
Salary outlook
Indicative: junior architects ₹3–6 LPA; 5–8 years in good studios ₹8–18 LPA; independent practice varies with projects.
Indicative ranges. Actuals vary by city, employer, specialisation and years of experience.
Typical path in India
- 1Class 12 with maths (check current CoA/NATA eligibility).
- 2NATA and/or JEE Main Paper 2 for B.Arch.
- 35-year B.Arch; internships in studios from year 3.
- 4CoA registration to use the title ‘Architect’ independently.
Skills that matter
- Drawing, 3D thinking, and software (one BIM/CAD tool well)
- Patience with clients and contractors
- Maths enough for structures and services, not JEE-Advanced level
Who this fits
- You care how places feel, not only how they look in a render
- You can live with a longer UG than B.Tech
Watch-outs
- Starting pay in many studios is modest; licensure and a few years’ site experience change that.
- Do not confuse interior diplomas with CoA B.Arch if you want the legal title.
Where to study
Most architect pathways start in the Architecture & Planning stream.
