Salary outlook
Indicative: articleship stipend ₹0.1–0.5 LPA during training; fresh CA average around ₹8–12 LPA, with ₹15–25+ LPA for rank-holders and Big-4 / industry roles. Independent practice scales with client base.
Indicative ranges. Actuals vary by city, employer, specialisation and years of experience.
Typical path in India
- 1After 12th (usually commerce): CA Foundation, then Intermediate.
- 2Articleship (3 years) alongside Intermediate / Final — this is the real training.
- 3CA Final, then ICAI membership before you sign as a CA.
- 4Work in a firm, industry (CFO track), or your own practice.
Skills that matter
- Accuracy with numbers and law
- Exam discipline across several years
- Client communication during articleship
Who this fits
- You like accounts / tax more than general management
- You can handle a high fail-rate exam without quitting after one attempt
- Commerce in 11–12 helps but is not the only route
Watch-outs
- Pass rates are low; plan 4–5 years, not ‘CA in 2 years’.
- Articleship stipend is small — family support or a parallel B.Com matters.
Where to study
Most chartered accountant pathways start in the Management & Commerce stream.
