Law (Corporate / Litigation)

Contracts, disputes, compliance, or courtroom work. Five-year integrated LLB after 12th, or 3-year LLB after graduation. Early careers split sharply between law-firm corporate work and litigation.

Salary outlook

Indicative: tier-1 NLU graduates ₹12–18 LPA at top law firms; other campuses commonly ₹4–8 LPA. Litigation starts modestly (₹2–5 LPA) and grows with reputation; corporate counsel roles ₹10–25+ LPA with experience.

Indicative ranges. Actuals vary by city, employer, specialisation and years of experience.

Typical path in India

  1. 1Class 12 any stream (law is open to all).
  2. 2CLAT UG for NLUs; AILET for NLU Delhi; state law CETs (MH CET Law, SLAT, etc.) as backups.
  3. 35-year BA/BBA/B.Com LLB, with internships from year 1.
  4. 4AIBE to practise in courts; LLM optional for academia / specialisation.
  5. 5Judicial services (PCS-J) later if you want the bench.

Skills that matter

  • Heavy reading and precise writing
  • Comfort with argument and disagreement
  • Internships that produce real work samples, not just certificates

Who this fits

  • You like current affairs, language, and structured reasoning
  • You can accept modest pay in litigation’s first years, or you will target CLAT hard for firm roles

Watch-outs

  • College brand matters more here than in many other fields for the first job.
  • A 5-year private law degree at high fees needs a placement report, not a campus tour.

Where to study

Most law (corporate / litigation) pathways start in the Law stream.
